The Profile of a Champion

Today’s message: The Profile of a Champion

2 Samuel 23:9-10
9 And after him was Eleazar the son of Dodo the Ahohite, one of the three mighty men with David, when they defied the Philistines that were there gathered together to battle, and the men of Israel were gone away:
10 He arose, and smote the Philistines until his hand was weary, and his hand clave unto the sword: and the LORD wrought a great victory that day; and the people returned after him only to spoil.

Like the warrior that wins battles, the Kingdom Champion receives his victories in God.

Introduction: Enemies are scattered!

Psalms 68:1
1 God shall arise, his enemies shall be scattered; and those who hate him shall flee before him!

The Word for 2023/5783: Visitation!

Just as God visited David, He has visited us by His grace and has given us the victory.

In David’s time his army mounted to the number of 1,300,000. 2 Samuel 24:9

2 Samuel 24:9
9 And Joab gave the sum of the numbering of the people to the king: in Israel there were 800,000 valiant men who drew the sword, and the men of Judah were 500,000.

The kings introduced the custom of maintaining a bodyguard called the Gibborim; i.e., “heroes.”

Just as David raised up champions of “the nobodies,” so the Lord has raised us up as champions of the Kingdom.

The Profile of a Kingdom Champion is revealed in his characteristics and challenges in life:

  1. Like the warrior that carries his sword, the Kingdom champion receives the Word of God.
  2. Like the warrior that won’t drop his sword, the Champion will always seek to honor the word of God.
  3. Like the warrior that fights until the total consummation of his victory in gathering his spoils, the Kingdom Champion won’t stop until the time of harvest
  4. Like the warrior whose tenacity activates the courage of his fellow soldiers, the Champion inspires his peers

2 Samuel 23:10
10 He rose and struck down the Philistines until his hand was weary, and his hand clung to the sword. And the Lord brought about a great victory that day, and the men returned after him only to strip the slain.

V. 10c. “and the LORD wrought a great victory that day.”

2 Samuel 23:12
12 But he took his stand in the midst of the plot and defended it and struck down the Philistines, and the Lord worked a great victory.

V. 12c “and the LORD wrought a great victory!.”

Conclusion: Call to salvation
